FTPFull Tilt Poker made the somewhat surprising announcement today that they were firing one of their sponsored pros. The player in question: Jonathan ‘Fiery Justice’ Little, who was signed by the site only a few months ago.

According to a statement released by Full Tilt, the firing was a result of a determination that Little had let other people play under his account, violating the standard terms of the Full Tilt Pro agreement. Excerpt from the statement:

Full Tilt Poker drops Jonathan Little

That's the message Full Tilt is apparently sending by firing WPT winner Jonathan "Fiery Justice" Little. The decision to drop Little was announced by Full Tilt administrator TilterRick on Tuesday afternoon in the Full Tilt forums.

What follows is an excerpt from the official Full Tilt press release:

"Despite having a great year on the WPT, Jonathan Little is no longer affiliated with Full Tilt Poker. He violated the terms and conditions of Full Tilt Poker by allowing others to play his account. While we encourage our pros to play as much as they can, we do not allow them to share their account with any other players..."

The release went on to say it is imperative that all red Full Tilt pros are, in fact, the pros they are advertised to be. It is assumed Little would have been trying to generate more in rake-back without actually playing.

Suspicions were raised earlier this month on the PocketFives forums when user rusypolano noticed that Little had played 1,227 sit-and-gos in just seven days. It's undetermined if that discovery precipitated Full Tilt's subsequent action. Other forum members have claimed Little was playing on Full Tilt while competing in the NBC National Heads-Up Championship.

Earlier this year Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi was busted for buying an account from a friend who was deep in an online tournament. Before that, online player Josh "JJprodigy" Fields was busted for multi-accounting.

This is the first case of a well-known professional player getting caught violating his sponsor's terms of service.

Little entered the poker spotlight with a first-place finish at the 2007 WPT Mirage Poker Championship, after considerable online success. Little went on to have an exceptional season at the WPT with a seventh-place finish at the Gulf Coast Poker Championship, a second-place finish in the WPT North American Championship and finally a 53rd-place finish at the Doyle Brunson World Poker Classic.

Little has cashed for well over $2 million in WPT events alone and also has numerous cashes at the WSOP.

Meanwhile the online poker community is buzzing over Little's apparent firing. Some think he should have received a warning before termination while others are simply calling it justice.

PartyParty Gaming CEO Mitch Garber informed the company last night that he was resigning from his position. In a conference call today with reporters, Garber revealed the decision and also made it clear that Party was continuing to negotiate with the US Department of Justice and remains confident in the potential for a settlement in the near future.

Excerpt from a Bloomberg story on Garber’s resignation:

Garber, who joined the Gibraltar-based company in April 2006, won’t renew his contract beyond May 1, 2009. The 43-year- old executive and his family plan to return to their native North America, he said today on a call with journalists.

PartyGaming slid the most in eight months in London trading as the company also said revenue growth was “lower than expected” over the past five weeks and Dresdner Kleinwort organized a sale of 87 million shares. The owner of PartyPoker.com is boosting investment outside the U.S., where a 2006 law barred foreign betting Web sites, cutting PartyGaming off from its main market.

Whole thing here.

generic_shuffling_cards_foreground_chips5.jpgA Delaware State Police trooper was charged with robbing a poker game he regularly plays in, authorities said Tuesday.

HyunJin Kim was arrested Monday and charged with 11 counts, including first-degree robbery, conspiracy, possession of a firearm during a felony, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and offensive touching. The acts allegedly occurred at a high-stakes game at a country club in Dover.

According to an Associated Press story printed at the dailytimesonline.com:

“Mr. Kim is not indicative of the caliber of troopers we have serving the citizens of this state… Mr. Kim is an aberration to the men and women of this division,” said state police superintendent Col. Thomas MacLeish.

Authorities were still searching for three other men believed to be involved in the Feb. 22 early morning robbery at the Wild Quail Golf and Country Club in Wyoming.

According to investigators, three masked men armed with handguns and a shotgun burst into the clubhouse and confronted a dozen people, including Kim, who were playing poker. The card players were ordered to lie on the ground, where they were bound and had their faces covered. Investigators said two of the victims were assaulted and received minor injuries.

The suspects stole about $10,000, as well as cell phones, credit cards and keys from the victims before fleeing in a car.

Whole thing here.

Kim had been a state trooper for two years. He has been suspended and is being held in lieu of bail.

Betfair providing Irish Poker Open VIP packages

The renowned online poker room and sports betting site is currently hosting qualifiers for the Irish Open with 10 guaranteed VIP packages worth almost €6k each.

The impressive packages include the €4,500 buy-in to the 2008 Irish Poker Open, spending money to cover flights, accommodation and expenses and a VIP trip to the 2008 Irish Grand National, the country's premier steeplechase event. Entry into Betfair Poker's exclusive WSOPE freeroll, with one seat guaranteed to the WSOPE Main Event 2008, is also included.

Last year Betfair's newly signed pro Sorel Mizzi made it all the way to fourth place in the prestigious Irish tournament. Mizzi, or Imper1um as he's known online, made €400,000 in a four-way chop and is looking forward to representing Betfair this year.

Betfair Poker is one of the world's fastest-growing online poker rooms. It is an independent site and not a part of any poker networks. It is owned and operated by the world's largest sports exchange.

Betfair was the headline sponsor of the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe where Annette Obrestad was crowned queen and became the youngest WSOP bracelet in history. Obrestad is a key part of the Betfair team which seems to be growing by the day, as evidenced by Mizzi's recent signing.
